Early Life: Michael J. Fox was born Michael Andrew Fox on June 9, 1961, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He began acting as a teenager and moved to Los Angeles at age 18 to pursue his Hollywood dreams, travelling 1,300 miles from home.

Television Success: Fox gained fame playing conservative teenager Alex P. Keaton on the hit sitcom Family Ties (1982-1989), which earned him three Emmy Awards and established him as a beloved television star.

Parkinson's Diagnosis: In 1991, at age 29, Fox was diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson's disease. He kept his diagnosis private for seven years whilst continuing his acting career.

Advocacy and Foundation: In 2000, Fox founded The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, which has become the largest non-profit funder of Parkinson's research worldwide, raising over $1 billion for research and advocacy.
