The Joker in Mask

with De-hydrator

Action Figure

15cm (6 inch) Scale

The Joker with the de-hydrator is a reference to the 1966 film Batman: The Movie, starring Adam West as Batman and Cesar Romero as the Joker.

In this movie, the Joker, along with the Penguin, Riddler, and Catwoman, uses a device called the "Dehydrator" (or "Super Molecular Dust Separator") to turn the members of the United World Organisation's Security Council into piles of coloured dust.

The villains then plan to ransom the world by threatening to destroy the council members if their demands are not met.

This figure captures the Joker's appearance during this memorable scene, complete with his diplomatic disguise and the infamous dehydrator device that played such a crucial role in the villains' elaborate scheme.

Batman TV Series

+

Batman is an American live action television series that aired on ABC from January 12, 1966, to March 14, 1968. The show, starring Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin, was notable for its camp style, upbeat theme music, and its intentionally humorous, simplistic morality.

The series was known for its iconic comic book-inspired graphics during fight scenes, characterised by comic-book style sound effects like "POW!" and "BAM!" that were superimposed over the action.

The series featured many colourful and eccentric villains from Batman's rogues gallery, including the Joker, the Penguin, the Riddler, and Catwoman, who would devise elaborate schemes to take over Gotham City, only to be foiled by the Dynamic Duo.

Despite running for only three seasons, the Batman TV series had a lasting cultural impact and contributed significantly to the popularisation of the Batman character beyond comic books, influencing numerous future adaptations of the DC Comics superhero.

The Joker Character

+

The Joker was portrayed by Cesar Romero in the 1960s Batman TV series and the 1966 Batman movie. Romero famously refused to shave his moustache for the role, so it was simply covered with white makeup, sometimes visibly so.

Character Design: As Batman's arch-nemesis, the Joker was depicted as a flamboyant, cackling criminal mastermind known for his elaborate pranks and schemes. His trademark appearance included green hair, white face makeup, red lips, and a purple suit.

The Dehydrator Scene: This particular figure is based on the Joker's appearance in the 1966 Batman feature film, where he and other villains used a dehydrator device to turn the United Nations Security Council members into coloured dust. The Joker disguised himself in this scene, wearing a costume representative of a foreign diplomat.

Romero's Performance: Romero's portrayal of the Joker was memorable for its exaggerated, theatrical quality, complete with manic laughter and grand gestures. Despite the show's camp nature, Romero's Joker established many of the character traits that would define the villain across various media for decades to come.

Batman: The Movie (1966)

+

Batman: The Movie was released in 1966 as a feature film based on the popular television series. The movie featured the four main villains from the TV show: the Joker, the Penguin, the Riddler, and Catwoman working together in an elaborate scheme.

The Dehydrator Plot: The central plot device was the villains' use of a "Super Molecular Dust Separator" or dehydrator to turn the United World Organisation's Security Council into piles of coloured dust, planning to hold the world hostage unless their demands were met.

Cultural Impact: The movie expanded on the TV series' camp sensibilities and included memorable scenes that have become iconic in Batman lore, including Batman's encounter with a shark and his dramatic "Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb!" sequence.

Legacy: Whilst initially received as a campy take on the Batman character, the 1966 movie and TV series have gained appreciation over time as an important part of Batman's cultural legacy, influencing how the character is perceived across different media.
