About Rubik's Cube
The Rubik's Cube was invented in 1974 by Hungarian architect and professor Erno Rubik. Originally called the "Magic Cube," it was designed as a teaching tool to help explain three-dimensional geometry to his students.
After creating the puzzle, it took Erno Rubik one month to solve his own creation for the first time. The cube was first sold in Hungary in 1977 and became internationally available in 1980, quickly becoming a global phenomenon.
World Record: The current world record for solving a 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube is held by Yusheng Du from China, with a time of 3.47 seconds, set in 2018.
Cultural Impact: Over 350 million Rubik's Cubes have been sold worldwide, making it one of the best-selling toys of all time. It has inspired countless competitions, algorithms, and solving methods.
Educational Benefits: The Rubik's Cube helps develop problem-solving skills, spatial awareness, patience, and logical thinking. It's used in schools and therapy programmes worldwide.
Solving Tips
For Beginners: Start by learning the layer-by-layer method, which involves solving one face at a time. This is the most common approach for new solvers.
Practice Algorithms: Learn basic algorithms (sequences of moves) for common patterns. Start with simple ones like forming a cross on the top face.
Online Resources: There are many free online tutorials, apps, and videos that can guide you through the solving process step by step.
Be Patient: Most people take several hours to days to solve their first cube. Don't get discouraged — even Erno Rubik took a month!
Speed Cubing: Once you can solve the cube consistently, you can learn faster methods like CFOP or Roux to improve your solving times.
