The Elf on the Shelf is a beloved holiday tradition that began with a children's book written by Carol Aebersold and her daughter Chanda Bell, illustrated by Coë Steinwart, and published in 2005.

The story introduces a special scout elf sent from the North Pole to help Father Christmas manage his naughty and nice lists. The elf watches over children during the day and flies back to the North Pole each night to report to Father Christmas about the day's activities.

Holiday Tradition: The Elf on the Shelf has become a cherished Christmas tradition in millions of homes around the world. Families name their elf and enjoy finding them in new spots each morning, as the elf moves to a different location overnight.

Rules of the Tradition: According to the story, the elf cannot be touched during the day or it will lose its magic, which is why this official carrier is the perfect way to take your Scout Elf along on family trips.
