Robert Craig "Evel" Knievel (October 17, 1938 – November 30, 2007) was an American stunt performer and entertainer who became an international icon in the 1970s for his death-defying motorcycle jumps and his distinctive patriotic star-spangled jumpsuit.

Born in Butte, Montana, Knievel began his daredevil career in the late 1960s, performing increasingly spectacular motorcycle jumps over cars, buses, and even the fountains at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. His most famous attempted stunt was a 1974 jump across Idaho's Snake River Canyon in a custom-built rocket-powered vehicle.

Throughout his career, Knievel suffered numerous injuries and broke 35 bones, earning him a Guinness World Record for "most bones broken in a lifetime." Despite these injuries, he continued performing dangerous stunts that captivated audiences worldwide.

Knievel's larger-than-life personality, distinctive white jumpsuit adorned with stars and stripes, and unwavering determination made him one of the most recognizable American icons of the 1970s. Caesars Palace Fountain Jump (1967): One of Knievel's most famous jumps resulted in a crash that left him in a coma for 29 days. Despite the severe injuries, this jump catapulted him to national fame.

Snake River Canyon Jump (1974): Perhaps his most ambitious stunt, Knievel attempted to cross the quarter-mile-wide canyon in a steam-powered rocket called the Skycycle X-2. The parachute deployed prematurely, causing the vehicle to drift to the bottom of the canyon, though Knievel survived with minor injuries.

Wembley Stadium Jump (1975): In front of 90,000 spectators in London, Knievel attempted to jump over 13 buses. He crashed on the landing ramp, breaking his pelvis, but still managed to walk out of the stadium, cementing his legendary status.

Kings Island Jump (1975): One of his successful jumps, clearing 14 Greyhound buses at Kings Island amusement park in Ohio, was watched by over 100 million television viewers on ABC's Wide World of Sports.
