Wacky Races is an American animated television series produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions. The series features 11 different cars racing against each other in various road rallies throughout North America, with each driver hoping to win the title of the "World's Wackiest Racer."

The show was inspired by the 1965 slapstick comedy film The Great Race, with the character of Dick Dastardly based on the film's villain, Professor Fate (played by Jack Lemmon), and the character of Peter Perfect based on the film's hero, The Great Leslie (played by Tony Curtis).

Originally airing on CBS from 14 September 1968 to 4 January 1969, the show ran for just one season of 17 episodes, with each episode featuring two separate races, for a total of 34 races. Despite its short run, the series has become a cult classic and spawned two spin-off series: Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines and The Perils of Penelope Pitstop.

The memorable theme song and the iconic characters have helped the show maintain popularity through syndication and home video releases for over five decades. In 2017, the show was rebooted with a new series, and in 2020, HBO Max produced Wacky Races, a series featuring the classic characters with updated animation.

The Racers:

• Dick Dastardly and Muttley in the Mean Machine (Car #00) — The main villains who will stop at nothing to win, though their elaborate cheating schemes always backfire

• The Slag Brothers, Rock and Gravel, in the Boulder Mobile (Car #1) — Cavemen who can reshape their stone vehicle with their clubs

• The Gruesome Twosome, Big Gruesome and Little Gruesome, in the Creepy Coupe (Car #2) — A Frankenstein's monster-like creature and his diminutive vampire companion

• Professor Pat Pending in the Convert-a-Car (Car #3) — An inventor whose car can transform into virtually anything

• Red Max in the Crimson Haybaler (Car #4) — An airplane pilot whose car resembles a WWI fighter plane

• Penelope Pitstop in the Compact Pussycat (Car #5) — The lone female racer who is as concerned with her appearance as winning the race

• Sergeant Blast and Private Meekly in the Army Surplus Special (Car #6) — A military duo whose car is a small tank

• The Ant Hill Mob in the Bulletproof Bomb (Car #7) — A gang of seven diminutive gangsters with a 1920s-style sedan

• Luke and Blubber Bear in the Arkansas Chugabug (Car #8) — A hillbilly and his pet bear in a wooden vehicle powered by a pot-bellied stove

• Peter Perfect in the Turbo Terrific (Car #9) — A gentleman racer whose sophisticated car often falls to pieces

• Rufus Ruffcut and Sawtooth in the Buzzwagon (Car #10) — A lumberjack and his beaver companion in a car made of logs
