Brief History:

Jenga was invented by Leslie Scott, a British board game designer who grew up in Ghana, West Africa in the 1970s. The game evolved from a family pastime Scott played using her younger brother's wooden building blocks purchased from a local sawmill in Ghana. The original family game was called "Takoradi Bricks" after a nearby port town.

After moving to Oxford in 1974, Scott introduced the game to her friends using blocks she had brought from Ghana and then in 1982, Scott decided to turn the game into a commercial product. She founded Leslie Scott Associates to produce and market the game. Scott named the game "Jenga", which means "to build" in Swahili.

Jenga was first exhibited at the London Toy Fair in 1983. Initially, Scott struggled to gain traction in the male-dominated toy industry of the 1980s, but in 1985, American entrepreneur Robert Grebler acquired the worldwide rights to Jenga. Hasbro subsequently licenced Jenga in 1986 and launched it widely, propelling the game to super stardom and turning it into a massive commercial success and by 2019, over 80 million Jenga games (equivalent to 4.3 billion Jenga blocks) had been sold worldwide.

Jenga has since become a global phenomenon, played in homes, bars, and even as giant versions at events. Its simple yet engaging gameplay has made it a classic in the world of tabletop games.
