I Dream of Jeannie is an American fantasy sitcom created by Sidney Sheldon that aired on NBC from 1965 to 1970. The series follows astronaut Tony Nelson, who discovers a beautiful two-thousand-year-old genie named Jeannie after his space capsule lands on a deserted island, and the comedic chaos that follows as he tries to keep her — and her magic — a secret.

The show was developed by Sidney Sheldon in response to the success of Bewitched, reimagining the "magical housemate" concept with a genie rather than a witch. Barbara Eden's charming performance as Jeannie, opposite Larry Hagman's exasperated Tony, helped the show become a beloved fixture of 1960s television.

The series ran for five seasons and 139 episodes, with its first season filmed in black and white before switching to colour from season two onward. Despite airing opposite tough competition, the show found even greater success in syndication, becoming one of the most fondly remembered sitcoms of its era.

I Dream of Jeannie has remained a beloved piece of television history ever since, spawning two television movie reunions and an animated spin-off, and continuing to charm generations of viewers in syndication and on home video.
