The Item Box Card is a special wild card unique to the Mario Kart UNO edition that adds racing-inspired chaos to your game!

How It Works:

1. When a player plays the Item Box Card, they announce "Item Box!" just like in the Mario Kart games.

2. The player then flips over the top card from the Draw Pile (without adding it to their hand).

3. The player uses the ITEM icon shown in the corner of that card. Each item has a different effect:

• Mushroom: The player gets to discard one additional card from their hand (speed boost).

• Banana Peel: The next player in sequence must skip their turn (slipping on a banana).

• Green Shell: The player chooses any opponent to draw two cards (getting hit by a shell).

• Lightning: All other players must draw one card (lightning strike affecting everyone).

• Bomb: The player who used the Item Box Card and the players to their immediate left and right must all draw one card (explosion affecting nearby racers).

4. After resolving the item effect, the player who played the Item Box Card chooses which colour will be in play next, as with a standard Wild card.

5. Play then continues with the next player in sequence (unless affected by an item).

This special rule introduces Mario Kart's iconic items into UNO gameplay, making each game more unpredictable and fun for fans of the racing series!

UNO was invented in 1971 by Merle Robbins, a barber from Reading, Ohio. Robbins created the game to resolve a dispute about the rules of Crazy Eights and initially sold copies of UNO from his barbershop.

The game caught the attention of Robert Tezak over Thanksgiving weekend in 1971, who became hooked on it. The following year, Tezak made a deal with Robbins to take over UNO, and International Games was formed to produce and market the card game.

Following decades of massive success, International Games was acquired by Mattel in 1992, and UNO has remained a global phenomenon ever since. According to Mattel, approximately 17 decks are sold every minute worldwide.

Today, UNO is available in more than 80 countries and has expanded to include numerous themed editions featuring popular franchises like Mario Kart, creating new ways for fans to engage with both the classic card game and their favourite characters.

Setup: Each player is dealt 7 cards, and the remaining cards form a draw pile. The top card is turned over to start the discard pile.

Gameplay: Players take turns placing a card from their hand onto the discard pile. The card must match either the colour or the number/symbol of the card on top of the discard pile. If a player cannot play a card, they must draw a card from the draw pile.

Special Cards:

• Skip Card: When played, the next person in line loses their turn.

• Reverse Card: Reverses the direction of play.

• Draw Two Card: Forces the next player to draw two cards and lose their turn.

• Wild Card: Allows the player to choose any colour for the next player to match.

• Wild Draw Four Card: Allows the player to choose any colour and forces the next player to draw four cards and lose their turn.

• Item Box Card (Mario Kart Edition): When played, flip the top card of the draw pile and use the item shown (Mushroom, Banana Peel, Green Shell, Lightning, or Bomb) with different effects for each item.

Winning: When a player has only one card left, they must yell "UNO!" If they don't and are caught, they must draw two cards. The first player to get rid of all their cards wins the round.
