The Smurfs (French: Les Schtroumpfs) are a Belgian comic franchise centered on a fictional colony of small, blue, human-like creatures who live in mushroom-shaped houses in the forest.

The Smurfs were created in 1958 by the Belgian comics artist Peyo (pen name of Pierre Culliford). The characters first appeared in the Johan and Peewit comic series, and in 1959, they were given their own series, which has over 100 adventures.

The Smurfs came to worldwide success through the animated television series, which ran from 1981 to 1989, as well as through numerous films, including the Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures Animation films The Smurfs (2011), The Smurfs 2 (2013), and Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017).

Merchandising of the Smurfs began as early as 1959, with the creation of the first small Smurf figurines. Since then, many Smurf figurines have been created, both for collection and for playing.

Grumpy Smurf is one of the most recognizable characters in the Smurf village. As his name suggests, he's known for his perpetually bad mood and pessimistic outlook on life.

Despite his grumpy exterior, he's an essential member of the Smurf community and often reluctantly helps his fellow Smurfs when they're in need. Grumpy Smurf can frequently be identified by his frowning expression and crossed arms.

His catchphrase is often a disgruntled "I hate..." followed by whatever the other Smurfs are currently excited about. This garden figurine perfectly captures his characteristic scowl and stance.
