Setup: Place all 144 tiles face down in the centre of the table. This is called the "bunch." Each player draws a set number of tiles depending on the number of players (21 tiles for 2-4 players, 15 tiles for 5-6 players, 11 tiles for 7+ players).

Start: Someone says "Split!" and all players flip their tiles face up and begin building their own personal crossword grid. There are no turns — everyone plays at the same time!

Peel: When a player has used all their tiles, they shout "Peel!" and every player (including the one who called it) must draw one more tile from the bunch and add it to their grid.

Dump: If you get stuck with a difficult letter, you can put it back in the bunch, but you must draw three tiles in return. This is called a "Dump."

Winning: When the bunch has fewer tiles than the number of players, the first person to use all their tiles shouts "Bananas!" and wins the game. Other players can inspect the winner's grid — any misspelt words or proper nouns mean that player is a "Rotten Banana" and is out!
