Voltron: Defender of the Universe is an American animated television series that originally aired in syndication from September 10, 1984, to November 18, 1985. The series was adapted from two unrelated Japanese anime series: Beast King GoLion and Armored Fleet Dairugger XV.

The series was produced by World Events Productions and distributed through King Features Entertainment. It became one of the top-rated syndicated children's shows during its original run and garnered a dedicated fan following that has remained strong for decades.

The first season, Lion Force Voltron, followed the adventures of five Space Explorers who, after being captured by the forces of evil King Zarkon, escape to the planet Arus where they discover the ancient robot warrior Voltron. When the five pilots operate their lion vehicles together, they form the mighty robot Voltron, Defender of the Universe.

The second season, Vehicle Force Voltron, featured a completely different story with new characters. Set in the future, it follows the Galaxy Alliance's exploration teams as they use their fleet of 15 vehicles to combat the evil Drule Empire. These vehicles can combine into a different version of Voltron to battle the Drule forces.

While not as popular as the Lion Force, both series are included in this complete collection, providing fans with the entire Voltron experience as it was presented to American audiences in the 1980s.
